Carol’s ceramic work includes vessels, platters, wall pieces and free-standing sculpture. Her hand-built earthenware pieces are often inspired by elements from nature and by ancient pots and sculpture. She constructs expressive and dynamic ceramic forms by hand, using slabs, strips of clay, and coils. Her construction methods are derived from the techniques of paddle and anvil and other coil and slab techniques used by ceramic artists since pre-historic times.

To add color and surface, various textured materials are rolled or scraped into the soft clay and then painted or sponged with layers of colored slips and vitreous engobes. Some pieces are sanded lightly to bring out the underlying colors and to create an abraded-looking surface. After a final firing to cone 1, the pieces are durable and outdoor weather proof. Each piece is a one-of-kind creation. For outdoor installations, vessels and objects are combined into sculptural groupings.
